Strong communities are impossible without adequate, affordable housing and the lack of a sufficient supply of affordable housing is listed as a primary impediment to fair housing in every study done for our service area. This event is directly related to the NeighborWorks Week 2020 theme of “Building Strong Communities Together Every Day” because it reflects the contribution we can make together as a community in creating and maintaining the supply of affordable housing. During NeighborWorks Week (June 6-13), Universal Housing Development Corporation and other NeighborWorks organizations across the country will focus on neighborhood change and awareness and host a number of events that educate, train and inform. The events demonstrate the value of neighbors helping neighbors.
Wednesday June 10, 2020 (weather permitting)
UHDC staff will still take part in a workday to spotlight our Self-Help Programs and demonstrate how this construction method increases the supply of affordable housing either through new construction or rehabilitation of existing housing. The exact location has not yet been determined and will be selected based on which home(s) are at an appropriate stage.
After careful thought and deliberation of our duty in the face of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, and in what we believe is in the best interest of our clients, employees and local communities, UHDC will not be issuing invitations to partners, elected officials, or local media at this time.
